5 Mistakes That Quietly Cost Freshers Offers

Not knowledge gaps — habits. Fix these and you'll stand out immediately.
Reciting Trailhead definitions instead of explaining in your own words
Interviewers can tell instantly when an answer is memorized verbatim rather than understood. It reads as surface-level knowledge even when it isn't.
Fix: after reading any definition, close the tab and explain it out loud to yourself in plain language.
Having zero hands-on project to point to
Badges alone don't demonstrate applied understanding anymore — too many candidates have them, so they no longer differentiate you.
Fix: build one small project (even a simple custom object + Flow + a basic LWC) so you have something concrete to walk through.
Treating Flow Builder as optional prep
It's currently the single most-asked topic for freshers, and candidates consistently underprepare for it relative to Apex.
Fix: give Flow Builder at least equal prep time to Apex — start with the dedicated 50-question guide above.
Not asking any questions back to the interviewer
Silence at "do you have any questions for us?" reads as low genuine interest, even when that's not the intent.
Fix: prepare two specific questions in advance — about the team's tech stack or what a typical first project looks like.
Preparing generically instead of researching the specific company
Service-based companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture) have noticeably different interview patterns from product companies — generic prep leaves you exposed to their specific style.
Fix: check the company-specific guide above before any interview with a named employer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need real project experience to get a fresher role?
No, but you need to show applied understanding. Trailhead badges alone rarely impress interviewers anymore because everyone has them. Build 1-2 small personal projects so you can speak specifically about decisions you made and problems you hit.
Is Trailhead enough to prepare for interviews?
Trailhead teaches you the platform, but it rarely prepares you for how interviewers actually ask questions — scenario-based, "what would you do if," and follow-up cross-questioning. Pair Trailhead with real interview-question practice like this series.
How long should fresher interview prep take?
Most candidates need 3-4 weeks of focused preparation: roughly a week each on Admin fundamentals, Flow Builder, basic Apex/LWC awareness, and mock/company-specific practice, assuming a few hours a day.
Which certification should I get first?
Salesforce Administrator (ADM-201) is almost always the right first certification for freshers — it's the most commonly requested one in fresher job postings and covers the foundational knowledge every other path builds on.
